“No single viche tastes the same. Much like wine or coffee, the terroir where the cane grows determines the flavor. It may be herbal, piquant or reveal notes of caramel, slipping down the throat and leaving just a warm glow on the lips. Some producers may also macerate indigenous ingredients such as coca leaves and vanilla.” BBC Article
Founder Liseth Martinez is fast becoming known as the Colombian Fawn Weaver.
Her Viche Canao brand represents a social mission to tackle low employment rates, social, economic and cultural issues in the rural communities in Chocó. Working with her father she is committed to preserving the legacy and ancestral methods of making viche – a strong, sweet Afro-Colombian ethno-botanical liquor distilled from four types of sugarcane (yellow, black, morada and pataperro).
We invite you to indulge in a culinary and tasting experience. You will learn why Viche has become so popular and experience its beautiful flavor and texture with the perfect Colombian food pairing. A selection of canapés bursting with flavor will be served to tantalize your taste buds and transport you to the ancestral farming village of Chocó.
This Pacific region of Colombia known for hosting the largest Afro-Colombian population in the nation, and a large population of Amerindian and mixed African-Amerindian Colombians. It is in the west of the country and is the only Colombian part of the country to have coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.
Known for its ethno-botanical healing properties, Liseth Martinez will share the wisdom of this traditional beverage and how your attendance at this exclusive event has made you part of the legacy of preserving Afro-Colombian heritage and supporting indigenous communities to thrive.
